SMC Gower Architects were part of the design team for one of the consortia bidding for the Leeds Building Schools for the Future programme, involving the design and development of six sample schools within the greater Leeds area.
Allerton high was a 1200 entry secondary school, previously a grammar school, which was to be totally replaced on its existing site with a new facility, which would incorporate a multi *** centre.
The design of the social spheres for the school was dominated by a 2 storey street providing ease of access and circulation to all sections of the school community as well as a dynamic means of ?way finding? to all areas of the building.
The school has a very diverse student academic and cultural population and the interior design concept was required to respond to these requirements as well as provide an overall unifying concept to project the schools specialisims as a whole.
